Laura Carlin’s Atelier
Watch the ceramicist create her witty take on Delftware live at The New Craftsmen this week
Illustrator and ceramicist Laura Carlin, who we first featured in issue one, is the inaugural maker in residence at The New Craftsmen’s ‘Atelier’ showcase. Carlin is the first of four makers who will be demonstrating their craft live at The New Craftsmen’s Mayfair store throughout February.
This week (from Thursday 12 February–Saturday 14 February), you will be able to meet Carlin and see her create Laura’s London, her own take on Dutch Delftware.
In the Delft tradition, Carlin is producing a series of tiles that depict everyday contemporary life, identifying her own idiosyncratic London landmarks – from the lion outside the British Museum to the ubiquitous sea of commuters’ umbrellas.
As well as Carlin, the other makers appearing at Atelier over February are potter Stuart Carey, weaver Catarina Riccabona and product designer Lola Lely.
